Shaw was batting at a strike rate of 98.96 and had scored 379 runs off 383 balls. He hit four sixes and 49 fours. Batting with captain Ajinkya Rahane, Shaw led the Mumbai team to a mammoth first-innings score which neared 608.
Also now he is the second-highest total in the tournament’s history after first making his first triple century in the Ranji Trophy and then surpassing the batting records of legendary Indian batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar.

Not only did the 23-year-old surpass Sunil Gavaskar’s Ranji Trophy record of 340 runs for Mumbai, but he also surpassed VVS Laxman and Cheteshwar Pujara, two more renowned Indian batsmen who were known for their prowess in Test matches.
In the 2012–13 Ranji Trophy season, Pujara hit 352 runs for Saurashtra against Karnataka, whereas Laxman made 353 runs for Hyderabad against Karnataka in the 1999–2000 campaign.
