Subrahmanyam Jaishankar meets Rishi Sunak on Diwali

S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, met UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty on Sunday at 10 Downing Street to convey Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Diwali greetings.

Sunak received a Lord Ganesha statue and a cricket bat autographed by batsman Virat Kohli from the minister, who was accompanied by his wife Kyoko Jaishankar.

Jaishankar posted photographs from the encounter on social media. “I was delighted to pay a visit to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Diwali.” The best wishes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were sent. Both India and the United Kingdom are striving hard to modernize their relationship. “Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Sunak for your warm welcome and gracious hospitality,” he wrote in the X post’s caption.

Jaishankar is currently in the United Kingdom on an official visit to meet with his colleague, James Cleverly. His visit started on Saturday and will conclude on November 15. His itinerary also includes encounters with other dignitaries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has emphasized India and the United Kingdom’s strengthening bilateral engagement, emphasizing the start of a Comprehensive Strategic Engagement in 2021.

Sunak also took the opportunity to compliment Modi on India’s amazing performance in the current Cricket World Cup.

The present confrontation between Israel and Hamas was also discussed by the two leaders. Both leaders condemned Hamas’s attacks on Israel, emphasizing that the terror group did not represent the Palestinian people. They also emphasized the significance of de-escalation.
