It was very shocking to see that Devdutt Padikkal was not retained by RCB for this season and they have not even picked him in the IPL Mega Auctions 2022. Many questions were raised behind his selection criteria for the side – Many of the critics felt that was a silly move from the owners and few of them felt it was the right thing. Here is Why RCB Left Devdutt Padikkal?
In the IPL Auctions Padikkal was bought for a crazy price tag of 7.75 Cr by the Rajasthan Royals side.
He has made a tremendous contribution for RCB in recent years and everyone expected him to be picked by the franchise but things went another way. He has scored a total of 884 runs for RCB in his last 29 games with an impressive average of 31.57 and a strike rate of 125.04
His presence at the top of the RCB’s chain has made a lot of impact for them – They had a perfect solid opening pair in the form of their former skipper Virat Kohli and him.
Why did RCB Choose to Leave Padikkal?
They have bought Faf du Plessis for a huge price tag of Rs 7 Cr at the IPL Auctions and Faf is an opening batsman. He was the 2nd highest run-scorer for IPL 2021 and previously he had played for CSK at the top & he had more success rate playing at the top.
It was a bit strange move by RCB to let go of Padikkal because they could have used the new opening pair in form of Faf and Padikkal but they have not chosen to do it.
If RCB were successful in acquiring Padikkal then they should push either Kohli or Faf to step down the batting order – And this can damage either any one of the batsmen’s potential. Because both Kohli and Faf have a good record when they are batting at the top.
It would have been mostly Kohli who would have been moved down the order – Kohli has scored 2696 runs in 85 IPL games and with a strike rate of 123.84.
RCB has initially gone to buy Padikkal and went up to 4.4 Cr but they have almost gone closer to their allocated budget for him – Since they had one promising opening batsmen in the form of Faf – they have thought not to exceed their budget on him.
We will now witness Faf and Virat opening the batting innings for RCB in this edition of IPL 2022. Earlier in IPL 2021, he has scored 633 runs in 16 games and also smashed 6 fifties.
Former South African skipper also brings in leadership qualities at the top and he is an excellent fielder too.
