The Indian Premier League 2022 Playoffs will take place later this month in two venues, following the conclusion of the league stage play in Mumbai. But, which of the four teams will advance to the playoffs?
In this article, we will understand what teams need to do in order to make the IPL 2022 Playoffs.
Gujarat Titans:
The new entrant has played a blistering kind of cricket in their debut season. The Hardik Pandya-led side currently leads the table with 8 wins in 10 matches and they need just a single win out of the last four to book a berth for the IPL 2022 playoffs race. Although, if they haven’t won any of their final 4 matches, they will almost certainly qualify.
Lucknow Super Giants:
Mr. Reliable KL Rahul’s team is performing admirably in the ongoing IPL, and they only required one more win to earn a Q (Qualify) batch. The Lucknow Super Giants are in second place in the points table with 14 points after winning seven of their first ten games.
Rajasthan Royals:
The Royals, who have not had the best of outcomes in recent years, are playing well this season and are in third place with six victories in ten games, needing to win two games in the next four to qualify for the playoffs.
Both the Orange (Jos Butler) and Purple cap (Yuzvendra Chahal) holders in the squad of Rajasthan make the Royals a dangerous team to face in playoffs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Royal Challengers Bangalore has had many ups and downs in their 11-match journey, but they are still in fourth place and need to win two of their remaining three games. The FAF Du Plessis squad is full of confidence after defeating the formidable Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs in their previous encounter.
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
The 2016 IPL winners have been the most unpredictable team this season, having started with two losses, then coming back with five straight wins before losing their past two games, despite the fact that the Williamson-led side is yet to play five games and they required to win 3 out them.
Punjab Kings:
Another inconsistent side but still riding on hopes of finding a place into top-4. They have won 5 and lost 5 till now and are currently at sixth place. The team who are following the aggressive approach in all their matches have to win 3 matches with a good run rate to keep in playoffs contention.
Delhi Capitals:
In order to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2022, Rishabh Pant’s Delhi must win four of their final five games. Although they have yet to win two games in a row this season. The NRR is on Delhi’s side, thus if they win four games, they will make a place for themselves in top-4.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
After losing 5 back-to-back games, the Kolkata Knight Riders back to the winning circle in the last game when they defeated Rajasthan Royals in 47th match. Though they have tough road ahead to the playoffs as with only four wins in 10 games, they need to win all their remaining matches in order to qualify for playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings:
The game is over for the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings as even after winning all the remaining matches they can only reach to 14 points which is not enough to push them to the playoffs race.
Mumbai Indians:
It’s hard to believe for many but Mumbai Indians were the first team who knocked out of the playoffs race after losing 8 consecutive games in the IPL 2022. The current all-format Indian team skipper and Mumbai Indians skipper since 2013 Rohit Sharma’s team will not qualify for the playoffs even if they will all their remaining matches. They are currently at bottom of the table with only 2 points in 9 games.
