Scott Boland has been selected to play his first Test in England, as Australia has all but finalised the lineup for their World Test Championship final against India at The Oval, starting June 7.
Australian captain Pat Cummins said that Scott will be preferred over Michael Neser in the final lineup.
Australia’s lineup would revert to its customary balance of five batsmen ahead of allrounder Cameron Green, wicketkeeper Alex Carey, three quicks, and a spinner.
“We’re big on kind of everyone bowling slightly differently, Scott is a seam bowler on a good length, but he just offers something slightly different to Joshy Hazlewood, and Starcy being a left hander is bit different. So, I don’t think there’s ever a pecking order. You think about the three guys that you want to go out and play,” said Cummins according to CA report.
AUS vs IND WTC Final at The Oval
The World Test Championship Finals will be held at The Oval in London from June 7 to June 11, 2023.
Australia won 11 Tests and finished top in the 2021-2023 World Test Championship standings, while India won 10 Tests and finished second.
Team India qualified for the Test event for the second time. They will want to win in 2023 after losing to Kane Williamson’s New Zealand the previous time.
“That’s the luxury of having bench strength,” he said. “‘Hoff’ (Hazlewood) was really close to being available for this one so he’ll be available for the first (Ashes) Test. Ness’ (Neser), you see how well he’s been doing in county cricket, Sean Abbott’s here, so I’m sure we’ll be calling on a lot of resources. You don’t want to finish off a Test match with something (left) in the tank knowing that you’ve got other guys fresh that you could bring in a few days later,” Cummins further added.
Earlier, Cricket Australia appointed Michael Neser as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood, who has been ruled out of the ICC World Test Championship final against India due to injury.
