Team India regained the winning momentum and defeated the Ireland women side by 5 runs as per DLS method to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.

The women in blue posted 155 while batting first and then their bowlers managed to take things in control.

Rain stopped the play during the ninth over of the Irish innings and the match then didn’t start and India women announced as winners due to DLS method.

It was team India’s vice-captain, who has been truly magnificent with the bat today, and played a superb knock of 87 off just 56 to help her side cross the 150 on board.

Opting to bat, Indian openers did exactly the same what they have been known for, destruction.  

They were just flawless in their approach and in no time helped the side crossed the 50-run mark. Shafali was out for 24 when the team were at 62 in 9.3 overs, while the vice-captain Smriti Mandhana remained strong from the other end and continue to score good runs.  

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who came at no.3, failed to play a big knock of walked back after scoring 13 off 20.  

The dangerous Richa Ghosh didn’t allow to open her account as Laura Delany dismissed her on her very first ball.  

Smriti remained till the 19th over at the crease and would have been score a century if she managed to play complete 20 overs. But she was out on 87.  

Her marvelous knock included nine fours and three sixes. Indian batters then made another 12 off the last 8 balls to take the Indian scoreboard to 155 for 6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Ireland lost their first 2 wickets in the opening over itself. One was a disappointing, as it was due to a run-out, while Orla Prendergast failed to read Renuka Singh’s ball and got beaten on the outside edge and the ball removed the off-stump.  

Gaby Lewis and the skipper Laura Delany steadied the ship for the Irish side and made a good partnership, things were looking in control of Ireland women, then the rain came and stopped the game.  

The Irish side were at 54 for 2 in 8.4 overs and still needed 102 off 70, the time rain forced to stop the match.  

The rain wasn’t stop till the alloted time and the match referee decided India as the winner of the match by 5 runs due to DLS method.

India’s win knocked out the chances of Pakistan to make it to the semis, as only England and India will now be advance to the semis from Group-B.
