New Zealand qualification scenarios for Super 8 stage T20 World Cup 2024

New Zealand qualification scenarios for Super 8 stage: New Zealand, one of the most competitive sides in the world, has faced the most shocking start to their T20 World Cup campaign.

The Blackcaps playing under the captaincy of experienced Kane Williamson lost their opening match in the marquee event to Afghanistan.

Opted to bowl, Afghanistan posted a total of 159 thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s 80-run knock. Kiwis, in reply, witnessed a shaky start after losing their top 3 batters inside powerplay and failed to recover from that situation.

With Glenn Phillips remained the top run-scorer for the side with 18, the Blackcaps only managed to score only 75.

New Zealand side was among the only three teams out of 20 who had not participated in the warmup game and opted to play directly in the main event.

As per the format of the T20 World Cup 2024 top 2 teams after all their games from all four groups will qualify for the next round of the tournament, that is Super 8.

And Kiwis are sitting in last spot on the points table in Group C, so what will they need to do to qualify for Super 8 stage?

First and foremost, thing for New Zealand is to win against West Indies, who are in second spot with 4 points, if they failed to beat the Caribbean side on Thursday, then their chances to qualify will down to zero.

But if New Zealand wins over West Indies, then they will give themselves a chance. 3 consecutive wins from here on will provide a sure shot super-8 ticket to New Zealand. While 2 wins in 3, compulsory against West Indies, can also give them a chance based on net run-rate.

New Zealand most important match will take place Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on June 13. The game will start at 6 AM IST (12:30 GMT).
