England Spot in T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8
England Spot in T20 World Cup 2024: Australia aided England’s progression to the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024 by securing a five-wicket victory over Scotland at St. Lucia on Sunday. Despite England’s triumph over Namibia in their final Group B match, their advancement hinged on the outcome of the Australia vs Scotland game. With Scotland having the same points as England needed Scotland to lose in order to qualify for the next round.
Despite their longstanding rivalry and pre-match comments from Josh Hazlewood suggesting Australia might prefer to see England ousted, the Australians defeated Scotland, enabling England to move forward in the tournament.

Scotland batted first at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium after Mitchell Marsh won the toss. With solid contributions from Brandon McMullen (60) and captain Richie Berrington (42), Scotland set a formidable target of 180/5. Australia’s fielding errors, including several dropped catches, helped Scotland’s cause.
Australia’s chase began explosively with Travis Head, but early top-order failures left them at 60/3. Marcus Stoinis then stabilized the innings, forging an 80-run partnership. Head scored 68 before falling in the 16th over, and Stoinis added 59 before departing with the asking rate rising to 13. Tim David’s rapid 24 off 14 balls ultimately guided Australia to victory with two balls to spare.
But their efforts were insufficient to halt Australia’s pursuit. This defeat left Scotland with five points, while England, having also reached five points earlier by defeating Namibia, advanced to the Super 8 based on net run rate (NRR).
