Their issue extends beyond the playing field as well, as both current and previous players frequently complained that this was not the proper manner to organise a series with spin-friendly pitchers where visitors suffer.
But when India or any other Asian team travels to their country for the series, the field is prepped to match their familiar conditions, so what’s the big deal here?
Such claims simply beg the issue of whether the visiting team is worried about losing the series just before the competition itself and is blaming spin-friendly pitches in an effort to lessen the humiliation.
Same thing is happening before the first test between India and Australia at Nagpur, starting February 09.
Australia was very particular not to play a practice game, but the visitors are taking part in a 4-day training camp at the KSCA Stadium in Alur.
Before the players travelled for India, Australia held a two-day spin camp in North Sydney.
They asked the curator to create a pitch that resembled a sub-continent wicket for the spin camp, which was held at Bon Andrew’s Oval in North Sydney. To gain a sense of the conditions in India, Australia’s spinners Nathan Lyon, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson, and Todd Murphy all bowled with the SG balls rather than the Kookaburra.
With the intensity is on it’s peak let us look at which bowler might rule in the first India versus Australia test.

Will India play with 3 spinners?
Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel are the four frontline spinners on the Indian team. Kuldeep displayed excellent performance in the most recent Test match against Bangladesh. Axar Patel has excelled in the red ball format, and R Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja have long been India’s frontline spinners.
In terms of performance and balance, Ashwin and Jadeja might be the best choices. The pair can score runs with the bat in addition to being skilled with the ball. Kuldeep Yadav might be in the starting XI if India decides to add a third spinner, though they may not be inclined to do so.
There will be few slots open as India will be without Rishabh Pant (who is recovering from an accident). While Shreyas Iyer is a questionable starter due to injury.
Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, however are ready to make their marks in test after solid white-ball campaign recently.
