Team England started their new era under the captain-coach duo of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum against an equally strong opponent and the current test champions New Zealand. Here in this article, we talk about the vice-captain of England men’s test cricket team.

During the first Test match between England and New Zealand at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, both the teams failed to cross the 150 mark in their first innings.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first New Zealand batters looked clueless in front of the swing magician James Anderson, who dismissed both the openers when the team was just at 2. England bowlers then carry forward the momentum and bowled out the Kane Williamson-led side at 132.

The ‘new era’ England team started their 1st innings on a high note with a splendid 59-run partnership for first wicket, and was looking to score massive runs in front of already on back foot New Zealand side.

But, the tables had turned when Jamieson trapped Jaw Crawley and dismissed him when England were at 59. After that, team England only managed to score 83 more runs and were all out on 141.

For New Zealand, Tim Southee bagged 4 wickets, Trent Boult grabbed 3 wickets, Kyle Jamieson took 2, and Colin de Grandhomme took one wicket.

In the second innings, despite yet another top-order collapse, an unbeaten 147-run partnership (at the time of writing) between Daryl Mitchell (77*) and Tom Blundell (77*) for the 5th wicket, has managed to take the New Zealand lead close to 200.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to announce Ben Stokes’ deputy or vice-captain, despite the fact that he was named captain of the men’s Test team exactly a month ago, replacing Joe Root.

However, the English star all-rounder did say that “five or six players” are in the running for the post, with Joe Root being one of them.

Right now, the team England are playing against New Zealand without a designated vice-captain of the ‘new era’ team of Ben Stokes.
