The second day of the third Test between England and South Africa at The Oval will not take place on Friday following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, England’s longest ruling monarch.
The ECB is still talking with the authorities about the situation and will give an update on the remaining Test when it is appropriate.
“Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Friday’s play between England and South Africa at the Oval will not take place,” the ECB said in a statement.
‘For fixtures beyond Friday, updates will be provided in due course.’
The country’s longest-reigning monarch, Elizabeth II, 96, held the title for more than 70 years.
England Vs South Africa day 1 update
The day 1 of the third and final test on Thursday was washed out due to rain.
A shower arrived minutes before the players took the field after England won the toss and elected to put South Africa in to bat.
Following a frustrating day of intermittent coverings, a formal declaration that no play would be able will be made at 15.45 GMT.
Jonny Bairstow, who suffered a catastrophic leg injury playing golf last week, has been replaced by England’s new batsman Harry Brook.
This season, Brook has averaged 107 in First-Class cricket, and prior to the series, he struck 140 against South Africa in a non-first-class match for the England Lions.
Four changes were made from the second Test by South Africa, which also missed Rassie van der Dussen due to a fractured finger and Lungi Ngidi out of precaution.
Aiden Markram and Simon Harmer are the other members that must make room, leaving Ryan Rickelton, Khaya Zondo, Wiaan Mulder, and Marco Jansen inside.
The series is tied at one game apiece with both Tests lasting three days.
South Africa won the first match at Lord‘s by an innings and 12 runs, but lost the second match at Old Trafford by an innings and 85 runs.
