Team India booked their place in the finale of the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand. Virat Kohli-led Indian side managed to beat England to seal their spot in the maiden finals of the Test championship. The inaugural edition of WTC began as soon as the 2019 World Cup. The sole purpose of coming up with WTC was to keep Test cricket alive amidst all the hype around red-ball cricket in recent years.
Ramiz Raja wants a game between India and Pakistan
The World Test Championship (WTC) has proved to be a treat for Test cricket fans. It has brought a new essence to the purest format of the game. The teams are looking forward to giving their best to win the hard-earned competition. Every game played after the 2019 World Cup came under World Test Championship.
However, former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja is not that impressed with the concept of the World Test Championship. Ramiz Raja stated that it does not make any sense to go ahead with the WTC if India and Pakistan do play against each other. India and Pakistan have not indulged in a bilateral series since 2007, due to the rise of political tension between the Asian neighbours. However, both the biggest rivals in world cricket do face each other in ICC competitions, except the WTC.
“The current format was lopsided and prolonged and it made no sense not having India and Pakistan series. Teams didn’t play the same number of matches and even the points system was weird. There should have been a 3-month window and everyone should have played against each other,” said Raja on his Youtube channel Cricket Baaz.
“Next time when the WTC has held no cricket should be held at that time if you want to promote Test cricket and infuse life into it and also attract sponsors to this format. Sponsorship will only come when you will not give sponsors any other option to park their money,” he concluded.
