ICC T20 Men’s World Cup: Despite Australia’s dominant cricket in the past years, they failed to win the shortest format of the game.
They won the 50-over World Cup five times out of 12 but didn’t manage to create the same impact in the T20 format.
However, they have reached the finals of the T20 World Cup 2 times off 7. In 2010, the men in yellow-faced defeat from England and took eleven more years to finally clinch the T20 World Cup in 2021.
New Zealand was the first team to reach the finals of the T20 World Cup 2021. And Australia had to face Pakistan in the semi-final match first in order to reach the finals.
Their chances of reaching the finals were almost shattered when they lost half of their side at the score of 96 in a 177-run chase game. However, Marcus Stoinis (40* off 31) and Matthew Wade (41* off 17) especially changed the whole scenario and earned Australia a victory with 6 balls to spare.
Fans of both the teams again goes to 2015 World Cup flashback where both Australia and New Zealand battle it out in the finals, which Australia won.

On 14 November 2021, Australia and New Zealand met each other for a nail-biting clash, and the Blackcaps skipper took the whole charge on his shoulders by making 85 off 48 to guide New Zealand to 172 for 4 in 20 overs.
In reply, Australia scripted history by winning their first T20 World Cup, courtesy of Mitchell Marsh’s 77* off 50, Maxwell’s 28 off 18, and Warner’s 53 in 38 during the night of final.
The men in yellow won the game by 8 wickets with 7 balls to spare.
The win was special for the Aaron finch-led side as after winning the cup Finch stated that they deserved to win the cup.
“I think a few things would have had to go our way to do that but honestly we had such belief in our group that we were good enough, that our team, our squad were the right players and as good as anyone in the world,”
“Don’t get me wrong, in T20 cricket you need a bit of luck and we won six out of seven tosses which goes a long way, but we also played some really good cricket. This team is pretty special. The camaraderie, the way that everyone really cares for each other and looks after each other, looks out for each other – pretty special.”
David Warner won the player of the tournament award for scoring 289 runs in 7 innings at an average of 48.17 with a strike rate of 146.70.
Now, with the 2022 T20 World Cup around the corner, Australia is all set to start the tournament as defending champions.
