What did Shikhar Dhawan say about Virat Kohli?
Virat Kohli is currently facing criticism for regularly taking breaks from the international series and for underwhelming when given the chance. However, the stand-by captain supports the former Indian captain as Dhawan discussed Virat Kohli‘s resting ideology and the reasons behind his absence from the current West Indies tour and the next Zimbabwe trip.
Virat Kohli is currently taking a break and is not participating in the current series against the West Indies following a dismal recent performance in England. Despite the fact that he formerly had the title of being the finest hitter in the game across all formats, Kohli has recently come under fire for his uneven performance and his lengthy century drought.
The king Kohli last struck a century over 3 years ago, but in his last 78 international innings, he failed to do it for once.
The talk of the town is Kohli just appeared on one tour after the IPL 2022 season. First he was rested for home series against South Africa and was also not part of the Ireland tour. Although, he was in squad for England tour, but played only test of the series and just 4 white-ball game out of 6 due to workload.
While speaking to Indiatoday.in, Dhawan backed Kohli and explained that big-name players are being rested due to their rotation policy.
“A player has to get fresh to give peak performance. If a player plays back-to-back, he will get mentally tired. It is important to give rest mentally. If you see there is rotation in international cricket so that players get rest. If a player travels everywhere, he will get tired. At the end of the day, a cricketer is a human. I feel people at top level understand and accordingly plan to keep a nice balance,” Shikhar Dhawan said.
Apart from former skipper Kohli, the current regular captain of India, Rohit Sharma too missed quite a few matches. Apart IPL 2022, he made return in white-ball series against England then missed the ODI series versus West Indies and now leading the team in T20 series against West Indies.
In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan was giving the charge of team India for the 3-match ODI series against West Indies, which India won by 3-0.
Indian team will next play a 3-match series against Zimbabwe for which Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be available again, hence Shikhar Dhawan will lead.
