The BCCI has announced India’s 15-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Both, former India captain Virat Kohli and the current T20 vice-captain KL Rahul are back in the lineup. Speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the event due to an injury.
Kohli opted for rest after the England tour and missed West Indies series is back in squad for the big tournament, while Rahul, who missed the action for 3 months due to sports hernia operation is all set to wear blue jersey action with a responsibility of being the vice-captain of the side.
Furthermore, Rohit Sharma as expected will remain the captain and the impressive new comer Arshdeep Singh will be India’s third seamer in the marquee tournament. Besides, Deepak Hooda, who impressed the most while batting top of the order in the past 2 months has also made the cut.
Dinesh Karthik retains his spot
Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik are the two wicket-keepers. With Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the two all-rounding options in the squad of 15.
Ravichandran Ashwin makes the cut
While, veteran Ravichandran Ashwin has also included in the squad alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi as specialist spinners.
Jasprit Bumrah would have been the leader of India’s fast bowling, but a back issue has prevented him from playing.
Bhuvneshwar to lead India’s pace bowling department
The experienced swing magician Bhuvneshwar Kumar will now lead India’s fast bowling department along with Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan.
Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer missed to get a place in the star studded 15-man India’s squad. While Axar Patel, who was viewed as a comparable substitute for Ravindra Jadeja, also left out.
However, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer Deepak Chahar will be there as standbys.
The Asia Cup 2022 will begin on August 27.
India will play their first match against Pakistan at Dubai International Stadium on August 28.
