Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian left-hand opening batter who was born in New Delhi, India on 5 December 1985. Shikhar Dhawan has been a part of the Indian squad for almost a decade now. However, presently he is only seen as a consistent part of the ODI squad. Shikhar Dhawan played his last Test in 2018 and hasn’t been a part of the T20I format as well for the past 2 years. Shikhar Dhawan started off playing cricket at the age of 6 years. Dhawan attended St. Mark Senior Secondary School in the Meera Bagh area of Delhi. At the age of 12 years, Shikhar Dhawan joined Sonnet Club in Delhi and got coaching from Tarak Sinha along with his cousin. When Dhawan joined the club, he started off as a wicketkeeper batter but later dropped wicket keeping to focus more on his batting skills.

Shikhar Dhawan started off his domestic career back in 1999 when he was picked in the Delhi Under-16 squad for the Vijay Merchant trophy. Dhawan smashed 755 runs in 9 matches including 2 centuries and ended up as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.

A year later in 2001, Shikhar Dhawan was picked up in the Under-19 squad of Delhi and smashed 282 runs in just 5 matches.

Shikhar Dhawan was picked up in the squad of the Under-19 Indian team for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2004 and ended up as the highest run-getter of the tournament scoring 505 runs including 3 centuries.
