Rohit Sharma supports Virat Kohli: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has once again defended Virat Kohli after his bad run continues in the second ODI against England on Thursday at Lord’s.
Indian bowlers did their job quite well in the game by restricting the opponent to just 246 in a 50-over game. But, it was the Indian batters who showed immaturity at the crease as India faced a 100-run defeat.
After losing both the openers early, everyone was expecting Virat Kohli to lead the side in the run-chase, but he once again failed to leave any mark and walked back to the pavilion after scoring just 16 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja did small partnerships but that wasn’t enough to help India cross the lake as they witnessed a defeat by a huge margin.
Virat Kohli’s form is a cause of concern for all cricket lovers, with former players questioning his spot in the team. However, he was seen in good touch when he smashed three boundaries but as usual, he was caught behind the wickets.
What does Rohit Sharma say about Virat Kohli?
But, Rohit Sharma, the skipper of team India, was once again seen supporting Virat Kohli during the press conference with one of the media persons again questioning Virat Kohli’s dry run with the bat.
On a question, about whether Virat needed support from the team, Rohit Sharma said, “He has played so many matches. He is playing for so many years. He is such a great batsman so he does not need reassurance. I pointed this out in my last press conference, too: form goes up and down, that is part and parcel of any cricketer’s career.
“So, a player like him who has played for so many years, who has made so many runs, who has won so many matches, for him, he only needs one or two good innings to bounce back. That is my thinking and I am sure all those who follow cricket will think similarly.” He added.
Yesterday, BCCI announced the squad for the T20 series against West Indies, starting on July 29, for they had decided to give Virat Kohli some rest.
