Ravi Shastri On Arshdeep Singh: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his desire to see the left-arm seamer Arshdeep in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2022.
Since making his T20I debut for India, Arshdeep has gained attention for his superb bowling. He not only bowled brilliantly during powerplays but also managed to restrict runs during the death overs.
Many have praised Arshdeep for his heroics in his debut match against England early last month, while he also recorded his best figures in T20Is of three wickets for 12 runs in his last game against West Indies on August 6.
“I think very close to it because India needs variety (on Arshdeep’s chances). And in Australia, left-armers normally do a good job. There is bounce and the angle that he creates. He will be an ideal foil when you look at the Indian attack. It should have Bhuvi, Jasprit, Shami, and then if you put him in the mix and all you might know is that he might play in one of the games given the opportunity,” Ravi Shastri said to Fancode.
Shastri said that he will select Arshdeep in his team as a left-armer alongside the main fast bowlers.
“If there are four pacers picked there, I would pick three right-armers, one left-armer and one all-rounder, which is Hardik Pandya. Jasprit and Bhuvi are certainties, and I feel Shami will get the nod,” he said.
The World Cup in Australia will begin in less than two months, and experts and seasoned cricketers have already started predicting who will be selected and who will be cut from the team. With former head coach of India Ravi Shastri has made his stand clear that he wants to see Arshdeep Singh in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
The ICC T20 World Cup will commence on October 16 in Australia. India will play their first match of the event on October 23 against Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Stadium.
