The Indian-based franchisee Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK) in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 league is set to be led by the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsmen Faf du Plessis. Faf will be the Johannesburg Super Kings captain and coach.
The JSK team is owned by the Chennai Super Kings owners who have expanded their venture and acquired the ownership of Johannesburg Super Kings.
JSK has picked five direct signings for US$375,000. The team has agreed to sign the likes of Moeen Ali for $400,000. Faf du Plessis has exactly played 100 matches for CSK in the Indian Premier League during 2011-15 and 2018-2021. Moeen Ali has also played for the CSK side in the Indian Premier League.
Mahesh Theekshana Sri Lankan player was also signed for $200,000, Romario West Indies all-rounder for $175,000, and South African pacer Gerald Coetzee for $50,000. Source – (espncricinfo)
In the auction, each team was given a purse of $2 million, and the maximum salary they could provide would be $250,000. Players with more than the maximum wage bill would be paid in full despite the restriction as the extra sum would be calculated as a marketing cost.
The six teams will be allowed to collect 17 players for the season in the auction, a minimum of five players will be signed directly without involving the auction process and the rest 12 players would be selected from the Auction list on 20th September 2022.
We will have to wait and see how the auction will go around, the players from South African domestic side are eagerly waiting as they can’t wait to play with the legends of the game.
Fleming, Simmons, and Albie Morkel will all be in the Coaching staff department for the Johannesburg Super Kings side in the Cricket South Africa T20 league.
