England Speedster Jofra Archer has confessed about how his long-standing elbow injury put him in a ‘dark place’ on his daily mail account on Wednesday.
Due to a long-term elbow ailment, Archer has not played for England since the Indian Tour in March of last year. He was forced to undergo multiple operations due to his problematic elbow injury.
Although Archer’s first operation had no effect, his condition improved after the second. The young gun underwent his second procedure in December and has steadily improved since then, practicing alongside his England colleagues during their recent Test series against the West Indies. Archer has acknowledged that after being out of play for so long, there were occasions when he thought his career could be over.
In his column in the Daily Mail, Archer wrote: “Having gone into a dark place last summer after the first operation, I can see why when people are not on the good side of situations like this they sometimes have a downward spiral in terms of mental health. It’s natural for anyone to worry about the future in that kind of situation, but not having to chase a contract gave me the time to rest properly,”
“Am I confident things are where I would like them to be ahead of Sussex’s opening Twenty20 fixture against Glamorgan on May 26? Absolutely.
“As for Test cricket this summer, I simply haven’t thought that far ahead.
“I’ve not had any prompts from anyone, telling me I’m a one-format player as yet. I still want to play everything.
Archer, who has played 13 Tests, 17 one-day internationals, and 12 T20s for England, first developed a stress reaction in his elbow during England’s 2019-20 tour to South Africa, forcing him to miss the final three Tests.
Due to a recurring right elbow problem that has bothered him for more than two years, he was unable to participate in the T20 World Cup and the Ashes series last winter.
Archer will participate in Sussex’s T20 Blast match against Glamorgan on May 26 in order to be fit to play for England again.
