Mumbai Indians Maiden Win
Mumbai Indians Maiden Win: After facing eight consecutive defeats in the IPL 2022, Mumbai Indians finally registered their first win of the season on Saturday. The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated Rajasthan Royals by five wickets to earn two points and give their fans some sort of joy.
The ‘Birthday Boy’ Rohit Sharma received a special great from his team in the form of their first win, though the skipper’s own form with the bat is still a major cause of concern.
“That’s how we play, real potential came out today, with the ball especially. They kept applying the pressure. If you keep taking wickets, it’s going to be difficult for them, we did that perfectly today,” – said Rohit.
Mumbai, who selected bowling first after winning the toss, restricted the strong batting lineup team Rajasthan Royals under 155. However, the man in form Jos Butler again produced some fireworks and scored his third fifty of this season.
Ishan Kishan got Mumbai off to a great start, but Rohit Sharma, who didn’t receive many strikes in the first two overs, tried to sweep against Ravichandran Ashwin and mistimed it. The fielder at the square made no mistake and grabbed a simple catch to dismiss the MI captain.
Despite Rohit’s early dismissal, MI’s two in-form batters Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma continued their remarkable run and did a much-need 81-run partnership to move his team close to victory, before Tim David’s unbeaten 9-ball 20 cameo gave the finishing touches.
“This is the team we played in the first couple of games except few bowling changes. When you have a season like that, you are not sure of your combination. You want to try out so many things.” Rohit admitted that conditions in Navi Mumbai are a bit different. “The conditions are different. The ball tends to grip here, the pitches are flat in the other venues. We try and field the best combination, it hasn’t worked for eight games.”
It was Mumbai’s maiden win of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, while the Royals witnessed their third loss of the tournament but are still in the second position on the points table.
