India faced Pakistan in the second match of the Asia Cup on Sunday, where India beat Pakistan in a nail bitter. India won the match by 5 wickets proving that the Indian team is growing towards glory.
Captain Rohit Sharma and the management had decided to drop Rishabh Pant and pick Dinesh Karthik for the match against Pakistan in Dubai.
Many were speculating the selection of Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant but in the match, Dinesh Karthik did not have enough chances to perform as Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja held on together and made sure that India crossed the line.
Recently Harbhajan Singh while talking to Aaj Tak news outlet was seen supporting the decision of dropping Rishabh Pant and picking Dinesh Karthik, he was quoted saying “Rishabh Pant, no doubt, has done very well even in Test cricket and one-dayers. He has been very good. But in this shortest format, he has not been an accomplished player. However, if you look at Dinesh Karthik, his graph is only going upward. He has performed well. This is the right decision. In this format, in this form, there is no use keeping him on the bench. It’s time for Dinesh Karthik to play, he should play.”
Even though Karthik did not have enough chances to prove his ability, many people even supported the decision of selecting Karthik as India needed someone with experience who can handle situations calmly.
Harbhajan further went on to say that “Rishabh Pant is young, he still has plenty of time left. However, Dinesh Karthik has only 1-2 years left and he should make the most of it, the team should also use Karthik’s form and make the most of it. He can win a lot of matches, batting down the order. With Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik batting down the order, I think it’s going to be difficult for most opposition bowlers.”
India will face Hong Kong in their next match on Wednesday at Dubai International Stadium. We will have to wait and see if Rishabh Pant gets a chance or not in the next match.
