Boria Majumdar banned by BCCI

Boria Majumdar banned by BCCI: According to a story in the Indian Express, cricket journalist and historian Boria Majumdar is likely to be banned by the BCCI for two years, during which time he would not be permitted into any stadium in the nation. The BCCI will also write to the ICC to have Majumdar blacklisted. Majumdar was found guilty of bullying India wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha by a three-member tribunal set up by the BCCI.

“All state units of the Indian cricket board will be informed not to allow him to enter stadiums,” says the statement. We will not provide him media accreditation for home matches, and we will also write to the ICC to have him blacklisted. On the condition of anonymity, a top BCCI official told the publication, “Players would be advised not to engage with him.”

The incident was made public on February 19, when Saha tweeted a screenshot of his discussion with the journalist, in which Majumdar pressured the cricketer to appear in an interview. According to a story published in The Indian Express, a three-member panel constituted by the Indian cricket board to investigate the situation deemed Saha’s accusations to be genuine, and recommended a two-year suspension, prohibiting him from covering cricket events in India for two years.

This comes after Wriddhiman Saha posted a screenshot of threatening texts he got from an unknown journalist asking for an interview and then ridiculing him for not replying on Twitter in February of this year. “After all of my services to Indian cricket…this is what I face from a so-called “Respected” journalist!” Saha stated in the post. “This is the state of journalism today.”

Saha mentioned Boria Majumdar and said that he was “bullied” for an interview during his evidence before the committee.

Following his announcement, Saha garnered significant support from the cricketing community. After that, the BCCI created a team to examine Saha’s accusation, which included vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal, and apex council member Prabhtej Bhatia. Majumdar, on the other hand, has accused Saha of “changing” screenshots of WhatsApp messages.

However, Majumdar rebutted the claims, claiming that Saha is selectively making selected tweets public, which misrepresents the truth. He also stated that he will file a lawsuit against the cricketer. Following the event, a number of Indian cricketers went public to call on the BCCI to intervene. The Indian cricket board subsequently appointed a three-man team to investigate Saha’s allegations, consisting of vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal, and apex council member Prabhtej Bhatia.

A top BCCI official told The Sunday Express on condition of anonymity that the Indian cricket board will warn all state units that Boria Majumdar will not be permitted inside stadiums. He will not be allowed to cover home matches as a journalist, and the board will write to the ICC to have him blacklisted. Players will be unable to engage with him as well.
