The International Cricket Council on Monday has announced the names of the winners of the ICC player of month award for May 2022.
In the men’s category, it was Angelo Mathews who received the honour of winning the ICC Men’s Player of Month for May after some impressive knocks in the recently concluded Bangladesh series.
While in Women’s category, Pakistan’s debutante spinner Tuba Hassan have been voted the ICC Women’s player of the month.
Mathews, the ex-skipper of Sri Lanka finished the series as the highest run-scorer with 344 runs in 3 innings at an average of 172.00.
First he smashed a 199 at Chattogram test that ended in a draw. While he score an impressive 145 in the Mirpur test to help his team cross the 500 mark and later Sri Lanka won that match by 10 wickets.
With this honour, Angelo Mathews becomes the 1st Sri Lanka player to be named the ICC Player of the Month since its inception in January 2021, edging past the fellow nominees Asitha Fernando, and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Tuba Hassan of Pakistan was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month after playing an impressive game of cricket with the ball during her debut international series.
The leg spinner did a fabulous job in restricting the opponent Sri Lanka in the 3-game T20I series in Pakistan. The 21-year-old took five wickets in the series at an average of 8.8 and an economy rate of 3.66, on top of that, she was also awarded as the player of the series for her brilliant performance.
During her debut match against Sri Lanka in Karachi, Tuba completed her 4 overs spell by giving just 8 runs and taking 3 wickets, setting the path for a six-wicket win for the host side.
The young Tuba Hasan becomes the first player from Pakistan to claim the ICC player of the month award after overcoming fellow nominees in compatriot Bismah Maroof, and Trinity Smith of Jersey.
