Danushka Gunathilaka News: A cricket player from Sri Lanka named Danushka Gunathilaka was seized on November 5 in Sydney. According to Sri Lanka Cricket, Danushka Gunatilleke has reportedly been jailed after a woman accused her of sexual assault (SLC).

After being detained on Sunday while packing his things at the team hotel. On Sussex Street for a 3.30 am flight to Sri Lanka following the team’s Twenty20 World Cup loss to England at the SCG on Saturday night. Gunathilaka, 31 years old, has been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket from all forms of the game.
Gunathilaka spent Sunday night in detention after being charged with four charges of engaging in sexual activity without consent. Without him, the Sri Lankan team took a flight home.

Police Statement
New South Wales police in a statement quoted saying “The woman met with the man after communicating with him for a number of days via an online dating application. It’s alleged he then sexually assaulted her on the evening of November 2, 2022. As part of ongoing investigations, a crime scene examination was undertaken by specialist police at an address in Rose Bay yesterday. Following further inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1 am today (Sunday, November 6, 2022).”

“Sri Lanka Cricket will take necessary steps to promptly carry out an inquiry into the alleged offence, Sri Lanka Cricket will have zero tolerance for any such conduct of the players and will provide all required support to law enforcement authorities of Australia over the incident. Every accused person is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty and therefore will take every step possible to assist [Gunathilaka] in his legal battle.”
