India’s spin bowling stocks have always been the strongest across formats. The nation has never been short on options when it comes to spin. From the likes of Kishan Singh Bedi to Anil Kumble, India has always had a plethora of choices. But the rise of spin bowling all-rounders has been a recent trend.
Harbhajan Singh despite his questionable consistency was one of the firsts for the country. His handy cameos at the end of the innings always helped the side’s momentum. India now has a variety of them.
We rank India’s spin bowling allrounders:
#4 Washington Sundar
He is the youngest addition to this list. Washington Sundar made his IPL debut in 2017 with Rising Pune Supergiant. He was mighty impressive bowling in the powerplay. Sundar then went to make his T20I debut for India.
He won the player of the series award in India’s triumphant Nidahas trophy campaign. But Sundar’s batting came to the fore in his Test match debut at Gabba. He scored a scintillating fifty to help India win a historic series. Sundar’s opportunities have been few but he has age on his side to cement his spot.
#3 Ravichandran Ashwin
Nobody in this list has more Test centuries than Ravichandran Ashwin. He has scored 5 Test hundreds so far. Ashwin has 442 Test wickets to his name. He is one of the all-time giants in red-ball cricket. Ashwin has now made a stunning return to white-ball cricket too. He prominently features in India’s playing XI. Ashwin showed his hitting capability lower down the order in an IPL game against CSK. There is more to Ashwin than just the thinking bowler.
#2 Axar Patel
He was forever on the fringes when spin twins, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were going strong. But Axar Patel seized the opportunity when it came his way. He became one of the key members of the side when he put in a brilliant performance in his debut Test series against England. Patel has continuously worked on his batting.
He has been one of the key finishers for Delhi Capitals in the last couple of seasons. Patel has helped India win a few close games on the back of his batting strength. He is expected to play a key role in India’s T20 World Cup campaign in 2022.
#1 Ravindra Jadeja
There is little doubt that Ravindra Jadeja is the numero uno allrounder in the world. Jadeja has taken rapid strides as a cricketer ever since he made a comeback to the white-ball squad in 2018. He is one of the first names in the playing XI across formats across varying conditions. Jadeja is arguably the only player who contributes in all three departments in all three formats. He is a mighty asset to the Indian team.
