Wasim Jaffer reappointed as batting coach: Wasim Jaffer, a former Test opener for India, has been reappointed as the batting coach of the IPL team Punjab Kings for the 2023 season after a one-year hiatus.

Between 2019 and 2021, Jaffer served as the batting coach for the Punjab Kings. He however left his position prior to the 2022 auction. The power-hitting coach Mark Wood was employed by Punjab Kings the previous year.

When Kumble named Jaffer to the position prior to the 2020 season, Jaffer resigned prior to the mega auction the previous year.

For the forthcoming season, he will, however, once more be in the Punjab dugout.

“Jiska tha besabri se intezaar (The one you had been waiting for), introducing our Batting Coach, Wasim Jaffer!,” Punjab Kings tweeted from their official handle.

After Anil Kumble’s contract was not renewed in September, they appointed Trevor Bayliss as head coach. Three seasons in a row, under Kumble, Kings had missed the playoffs.

Haddin, a former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman, will collaborate with Bayliss once more. They previously served in the same capacity at Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Shikhar Dhawan new skipper of Punjab Kings

Shikhar Dhawan took over as captain of the IPL 2023 earlier this month.

It was very obvious that the team may release Mayank Agarwal as captain after announcing Shikhar Dhawan as the captain of Punjab Kings for the 2023 season, and that is exactly what happened on November 15.

Agarwal, who joined the Punjab franchise in 2018, worked well with KL Rahul. He then was appointed captain of the Punjab-based side prior to the start of the IPL 2022 season.

Agarwal, a star performer for the Punjab Kings, and pacer Arshdeep Singh were retained by the franchise before the mega-auction for the 2022 campaign.

Shikhar Dhawan was purchased by Punjab Kings for an astounding INR 8.25 crore at the super auction last year.

In his maiden season with the Punjab Kings, the temporary skipper of Team India amassed 460 runs in 14 games.

The Kings have made changes after yet another season in which they were unable to reach the final four. They released nine players on November 15 at the conclusion of the retention deadline day.
