The Rajasthan Royals finished as runners-up in IPL 2022. They had a pretty impressive run last season. RR the Inaugural IPL champions have very little to showcase post the high of the first season. They had the chance to repeat the magic last year but they fell short of the firepower to lift the title. RR remained quite low-key in the auctions too. They did end up buying two interesting overseas options in the end.
We look at RR squad and analyze Rajasthan Royals Strengths and Weakness:
Rajasthan Royals (RR) Strengths:
#1 An envious top order:
Rajasthan has one of the most powerful top orders in the tournament. Jos Buttler smashed 862 runs last season winning the orange cap quite comfortably. He broke David Warner’s 6 season long record of being the second-highest run-getter in a single edition. Partnering Buttler at the top was Yashasvi Jaiswal. The youngster has grown leaps and bounds in the last couple of seasons. Sanju Samson at number 3 completes a formidable troika for RR. The top three for RR are not just fiery but also bankable!
#2 The addition of quality overseas options in RR:
Joe Root this season will finally feature in the IPL. The English batter has been in some form in the last two years. He will be a wonderful addition to the RR setup. RR struggled with the number 6 and number 7 spot last season. It was arguably this position that cost them the title last season. RR has tried plugging that gap this time. They acquired the services of Jason Holder to fill that gap.
#3 RR Spinners
The spin factor was RR’s biggest strength last season. Yuzvendra Chahal was the purple cap winner in IPL 2022. He won many games for the side with his spin and guile. Chahal’s pairing with Ravichandran Ashwin gave RR a bank of 8 overs. Samson even used Chahal in the end overs. The pair will continue to be a decisive factor this season too. RR has added Adam Zampa to the mix. This spin trio will be a handful on helpful pitches.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Weakness:
#1 Middle order:
This was one of the biggest reasons why RR lost out on the prize last season. RR had to play Devdutt Paddikal at number 4. The left-hand batter was totally out of place batting in that position. Shimron Hetmyer largely masked RR’s middle-order woes last year but he would surely need company in this season. Holder is ideal at number 7, if Riyan Parag can translate his domestic form then he could be a good addition at number 6. RR’s middle-order success is still dependent on probabilities for a second season running.
#2 The pace department:
Trent Boult is a fine T20 bowler. He makes the new ball talk in most conditions. Prasidh Krishna was a fine ally last season. But injury has ruled him out for IPL 2023. Kuldeep Sen will be playing his second season which is touted to be the toughest for any player. Obed McCoy is an interesting choice but his addition will complicate the playing XI even further. RR doesn’t necessarily have a happy problem of plenty.
#3 Team balance:
RR effectively played with 6 batters and 5 bowlers. They could never achieve depth in either batting or bowling last season. RR will expect that their punt on Holder comes off. If Holder strikes with the bat at 7, it would allow them to play Ashwin at 8. This combination will help them achieve better depth as compared to the previous season.
