In the midst of the ongoing Mankad controversy, Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a new idea that there should be a “free ball” for bowlers just as “free strike” exists for batsmen. A free hit is awarded to the side of the batting when the bowler bowls are no bats. After the no-ball, the next delivery is called “free strike” and the batsman can not be shot on that delivery rather than run out. Ashwin said that there would be a “free ball” if the batsman on the non-stripper end leaves the crease before the ball is bowled.
