The much-anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and New Zealand begins on June 18, and the anticipation among cricket fans is considerable. Sunil Gavaskar, Kumar Sangakkara, Simon Doull, Isa Guha, Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, Ian Bishop, Craig McMillan, and Dinesh Karthik have all been named as English commentators for the summit showdown.

While all of the preceding names had extensive expertise in commentating, Karthik’s inclusion on the list has many people scratching their heads. The 36-year-old was a member of the commentary panel for India’s limited-overs series against England, and he fit in perfectly with his clever, catchy, and fantastic one-liners dependent on the match scenario.

Karthik’s famous line of “he starts like a Corolla but finishes like a Ferrari”, to describe Virat Kohli’s T20I innings left everyone speechless and amazed.

While both sides have an equal chance of winning the final, India seems to be the more hungry squad, according to Gavaskar, who believes Virat Kohli’s players have had a decent rest ahead of the summit battle. New Zealand, on the other side, is coming off a 1-0 victory in a two-match Test series against England. The Kiwis have momentum, but a couple of their senior players are suffering from health irritations, which may be a problem when the match begins on June 18.

The winner of the WTC Final will get $1.6 million in prize money. The losing team will get $800,000 in prize money. The victorious team will also be awarded the ICC Test Mace, which is presently in the control of India.
