With the World Test Championship final only a few days away, many cricket experts and analysts are making predictions on who will win the summit battle. Many have predicted that New Zealand will enter the WTC final as favourites, claiming that the upcoming Test series against England will assist them in adjusting to the English conditions. Three consecutive Tests will be a disadvantage for New Zealand says Mike Hesson.

Mike Hesson, the former head coach of the New Zealand cricket team, disagrees, believing that playing three Test matches in a space of 20 days might be a disadvantage to the players, particularly the bowlers. Hesson feels the Kiwis must be cautious when it comes to managing the workload of their pacers.

New Zealand will have to look at the bowling attack- Mike Hesson

Three consecutive Tests will be a disadvantage for New Zealand. “It is an issue (playing three Tests with a four-day gap in between). New Zealand will have to look at the bowling attack and that’s potentially why Trent Boult will play this game (second Test against England from Thursday,” Mike Hesson pointed out as quoted by Mykhel.com.

“That will give one of those other quicks to rest potentially because it’s only four days between each Test. So, three on the bounce is a big deal, especially if you put in 45 to 50 overs in the second Test, or they just decide to manage the workloads which is not something you usually do going into a Test match,” he added.

Mike went on to discuss India’s opening combination later in the conversation. India’s opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill is almost certain to play. During India’s tour of Australia, the latter made his Test debut and performed impressively.

The 46-year-old Hesson, on the other hand, believes Mayank Agarwal will play in the WTC final. According to Hesson, Agarwal was fairly good during India’s 2020 tour of New Zealand, and therefore has experience batting in difficult conditions.

“They will probably go with Rohit and Shubman but I think Mayank needs to be considered. He has faced the New Zealand attack in New Zealand, where he would have got some crucial experience,” said Hesson.
