Amid the outbreak of coronavirus, needy and poor people struggle to meet their daily needs. Therefore, Shoaib Akhtar suggested the idea of hosting a three-match ODI series between India and Pakistan to raise funds to fight the pandemic. This advice did not go down well with Kapil Dev, who accused of making such a suggestion in these circumstances.
The COVID-19 pandemic gets worse and worse with each passing day. The death toll is increasing day by day with the number of cases worldwide. So far, more than 88,000 people have lost their lives due to the novel virus. With no choice, governments have declared a lockdown in the respective countries. This step is a significant setback for people who rely on their daily wages to meet their daily needs.
Kapil Dev doesn’t want fundraising games
Recently, Shoaib Akhtar, the former speedster of Pakistan, came up with a fundraiser. However, the suggestion to maintain the ODI series under these circumstances did not go well with the former India captain. So, he made the 44-year-old slogan, and Shoaib Akhtar said he was free to make his point. There is no need to make money as India has enough to protect the people.
“He deserves his opinion, but we don’t have to raise money. We have enough. The situation is not likely to return to normal, and managing a cricket game does not mean that our cricketers are in danger,” Kapil Dev told Business Standard.
The former World Cup winner also recited how much money he could make in three games. According to him, it is a bad idea to think of any cricket for the next five or six months, “It is not worth the risk. And how much money can you make from three games? In my view, you can’t even think about cricket for the next five to six months,” said Kapil Dev.
