Former India batsman and now analyst Sanjay Manjrekar believes Glenn Maxwell is the primary factor for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s comeback. He praised the Australian all-rounder for his solid performances, as he hit his 3rd consecutive fifty in the IPL’s UAE leg.
Manjrekar’s remarks followed Maxwell’s Player of the Match effort versus Punjab Kings in Sharjah, in which he smashed 57 in 33 balls, with 3 fours and 4 sixes to propel RCB to a challenging 164-run score.
RCB have got a Maxwell coming in and playing the way he does: Manjrekar
” You have got a Maxwell coming in and playing the way he does; RCB’s story has been about Maxwell finding form after the UAE leg,” said Manjrekar. He also praised Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harshal Patel’s contributions.
Manjrekar remarked of Chahal, who was among the main architects of RCB’s victory over PBKS, “You can see in the mannerism that it [not being selected in the T20 World Cup squad] has hurt him. The dropping has really hurt him and you will see a better version of Chahal. He is going to make a comeback soon, it’s on the cards,” he added.
RCB they wanted me to do the exact same role: Maxwell
Likewise, following his team’s six-run victory over PBKS, Maxwell stated: “Came in at a nice time to bat. Lucky to hit the first couple of risks out of the middle. I feel like in the last two years of IPL I have batted nicely. To have it set up by the openers today gave us some time to get an idea of the wicket. Coming into RCB they wanted me to do the exact same role (as with Australia). This (Sharjah) is probably the most difficult to adjust to. The spinners get it to skid on which means you have to be sharper at the start of your innings.”
RCB, who are now 3rd in the standings with 16 points from 12 games, were the 3rd club to win for the IPL 2021 playoffs, behind the Delhi Capitals & Chennai Super Kings.
