Venkatesh Iyer absolutely dominated the 2nd half of the IPL. In the five matches he has featured in the UAE phase of the IPL, the 26-year-old has destroyed bowling tactics, scoring 193 runs at an avg of 48.25 and a strike rate of 141.91.
Iyer has also taken three wickets with the ball. Indian cricket icon, Sunil Gavaskar believes that Iyer may be the ultimate all-rounder that Team India is hunting for. According to the 72-year-old, Iyer does not deliver with much speed and does not let the batter go against him.
Venkatesh Iyer drives beautifully through the off-side: Gavaskar
Gavaskar believes that Iyer’s knocks through the offsides are lovely to see, despite the fact that he swings in an aggressive forecheck.
“In Venkatesh Iyer, Kolkata have unearthed a player who can be the all-rounder that India is looking for. His bowling is not express, but he gets the yorker right more often than not and doesn’t let the batsman slog him. As a batsman, he plays upright, which gets into a great position to play the short ball, and he drives beautifully through the off-side like all left-handers seem to do,” Gavaskar.
Venkatesh Iyer hit a brilliant 67 at the top of the lineup for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) versus the Punjab Kings (PBKS). In reality, it was Iyer’s magnificent blow that enabled the Eoin Morgan-led team to achieve a total of 165/7.
In response, KL Rahul & Mayank Agarwal of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) took the assault to the opponents and put up a 70-run stand for the first wicket. And Shahrukh Khan’s blazing performance, in which the right-hander struck a ruthless 9-ball 22*, secured Punjab’s victory with 5 wickets to go.
The KKR will be back on the pitch on October 3rd, 2021, as they take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Dubai.
