Mushfiqur Rahim believes Bangladesh has a good potential of playing well in the next T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Tigers will enter the main event on a positive note because they have won the series against Australia, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe. He also believed that the results will help his squad prepare for the competition.
Bangladesh has struggled in the T20 format throughout the years, and as a result, it has been denied a straightforward entry into the competition. To qualify for the Super 12s, Mahmudullah and his teammates must defeat Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and Oman in the 1st round. Mushfiqur said that the Tigers must establish consistency in order to do well at the World Cup.
“Since we have won the last three series – two at home and one away, it gave us a huge boost ahead of the World Cup. It is not easy to do well in T20 consistently. That’s why I am eagerly waiting for such an exciting tournament. No matter how many times we played in the T20 World Cup, it is a great opportunity for us to have a very good consistent performance in the T20,” Mushfiqur said at an event.
I got a chance to play with a lot of quality players: Mushfiqur Rahim
Mushfiqur had struggled with the bat in the series versus New Zealand. The 34-year-old produced just 39 runs at an avg of 13 and a strike rate of 52 on the sluggish and low pitch at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Nevertheless, the right-hander hit fifty in both of Bangladesh A’s matches against the Strong Unit.
“No matter how much I practice individually or with the team, the real preparation does not come up unless you play a match. So, I was trying when I got a chance to play with a lot of quality players against the HP team. There was some pressure as well. So, I was looking for this opportunity,” he added.
Bangladesh has a poor record in T20 World Cups. The Tigers have won 5 games and lost 19, including one game ending in a tie.
