India lost one of its biggest actors last month, Irrfan Khan, who breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. The entire country mourned his death as social media tributes came from every corner. The man who’s acted in some of his career’s memorable movies was also a huge cricket fan.
During the first part of his career, he decided to be a cricketer, and he was officially picked in the CK Nayudu Trophy team. But the lack of money led him to give up the vision of being a cricketer and Irrfan eventually became an actor. Surprisingly, in an interview with two legendary cricket stars, Imran Khan and Zaheer Abbas, the top actor expressed his fondness.
When thinking about them, Irrfan Khan remembered a moment when he went to ask for an autograph and was inspired by the character of the Pakistan World Cup-winning captain. “There’s been a match between India and Pakistan. I’ve been too young. Zaheer Abbas has been there. I was going to take his autograph. I’ve never taken autographs from anyone in my career. He stared at me, and I was feeling humiliated. I felt horrible.
“I was a Zaheer Abbas and Imran Khan fan. Imran kitna khubsoorat lagta hai! What a persona… open-chested, Aisi uchhal ke bowling Karta tha. Even now, he looks great,” he said while speaking to The Telegraph.
David Beckham and Kapil Dev were also Irrfan Khan’s favorite
Irrfan Khan also named other cricketers and sportspeople who had a positive impact on him. The style of David Beckham inspired him, and he also revealed that Kapil Dev was once his favorite. “David Beckham is also a really good-looking man. Beckham ka ajeeb sa hai … something that suits him. Quite stylish.
“I liked Sachin (Tendulkar) at one point of time. Kapil (Dev) was favorite as well. (M.S.) Dhoni has shown a certain character. He played games on his own for India. He’s a fantastic captain, “said Irrfan. As far as the talented actor after cricket is concerned, he was last seen at the stadium in 2018 during a test game between Pakistan and England.
