The South African player, who was born in Pakistan, stated that he intends to continue playing cricket as long as he enjoys it. Tahir declared his retirement from one-day international cricket at the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup, although he continued to play franchise cricket throughout the world. “So as long as I am enjoying it, I want to play if it is the upcoming World Cup or the next World Cup,” Tahir said in an interview.
He also stated that he was a member of the South Africa team that was set to compete in the ICC T20 World Cup, which was set to take place in Australia last year but was suspended due to the pandemic. “If I am playing in the PSL, I want to perform well. I haven’t retired as well. I was a member of South Africa’s squad for the World Cup last year, which didn’t happen because of COVID last year. So I was part of the squad which was to play in the World Cup. But now I’m trying to prove myself and perform in the PSL,” Tahir said.
Tahir also stated that he is excited to do well in the PSL because he feels that if he does well, it would put pressure on South African selectors. Tahir has not participated in an international match since announcing his ODI retirement in mid-2019. South Africa has been identifying fresh talent and providing them greater opportunities.
