Australian cricketer, Glenn Maxwell has described himself as a ‘sponge for Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, saying that each day he stayed with the 2 legends during the 2021 IPL 2021 was a learning opportunity.
The Australian also stated that he is grateful to the IPL for the chances it has afforded him and that the Indian T20 League has allowed him to learn from the finest in the game.
The 33-year-old also mentioned that he was lucky to have played alongside Kohli and de Villiers, and that both superstars were willing to share their expertise on the field.
Every day with Virat and AB, I was finding something new out: Maxwell
“Every day was a learning experience, every day I was finding something new out, I was being a sponge to Virat and AB, just watching the way they go about things. That’s been one thing in the IPL I’ve been extremely thankful of – the opportunities it gives you to learn off the best players in the world”.
“I was extremely fortunate to have two of the greats in the game in the same team and in the same batting line-up who were open to share their experiences and talk to me about their game,” said Glenn Maxwell.
Glenn Maxwell also stated that having the support of Kohli and de Villiers makes him feel 10-feet high and strengthens his confidence. “It makes you feel 10-feet tall when you have their backing, they’re watching you and ask you questions. It makes you feel confident, it makes you feel happy,” said Maxwell.
I’ve come off a good run of form: GlennMaxwell
Maxwell also stated that if he follows the same strategy that he has used in the IPL, he would be successful in the T20 World Cup as well. Maxwell continued by noting that everyone in the Australian team is aiming to provide their best in the mega competition, noting that he would give his all for the Australian team in the approaching T20 World Cup.
“I know if I continue the processes I have in the IPL I know I’m going to have success. It’s a nice position to be in mentally that I’ve come off a good run of form. I’m not over-thinking the stuff in-game”.
“Once I get in-game it’s all automatic, I’m trying to play against the conditions and the opposition, that’s all I’m thinking about. It’s not if I play well we’re going to win a World Cup, there are no thoughts of that. If I’m in the contest I’ll give my best on the day, and then I’m sure that will be a positive impact on the team. Everyone in the squad is thinking the same thing,” concluded Maxwell.
