Ganguly’s Magnanimous Deed
Former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has come forward to offer help to the homeless who are struggling to stay safe from the deadly coronavirus.
He has decided to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh for the needy during the 21-day lockdown, imposed by the government, to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The left-handed batsman has come together with Lal Baba rice mall to distribute food to the poor and needy who are taking shelter in government schools according to a statement released by the Cricket Association of Bengal.
The rice mill also stated that it hopes Ganguly’s gesture would encourage others to take up such activities. It also released a statement that read, “Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday has announced that the country will be in lockdown for 21 days and told that people should not leave their houses. During the lock-down period, all services and businesses will be shut down except essential services and businesses.
Apart from the nation-wide lock-down, many state governments have also ordered for curfews restricting people’s movement to stop the spreading of the pandemic.
Ganguly two days back posted few pictures of empty streets of Kolkata and wished the situation would change. Ganguly, who is the president of BCCI has shut down its office and asked its employees to work from home.
Crickets’ Active Role In Fight Against Covid-19
Many cricketers have been active in telling people about measures to be taken to deal with the outbreak of the health crisis and also have been offering help for people to face a critical situation.
Previously it was reported that the Pathan brothers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan have bought 4000 masks on behalf of their father’s trust and have given them away to poor people.
