Team India’s iconic off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has been on a blaze last year, with figures that are nothing short of fantastic. The 35-year-old was the best wicket-taker in Test format by picking 52 wickets in just 8 matches. Despite Ashwin having just played some of his finest cricket, it’s not really a long time ago that he was dealing with mental trauma. Here is what R Ashwin Speaks About MS Dhoni’s Advice.
R Ashwin Speaks About MS Dhoni’s Advice
In 2017, the top off-spinner was dropped from both the ODI and T20I selections. Furthermore, when Kuldeep Yadav was newer to international cricket, former Team India coach Ravi Shastri termed him as the team’s finest overseas spinner. As if that wasn’t enough, Ashwin was forced to withdraw from the remaining 3 Tests versus Australia during the 2018-19 tour owing to an injury.
I don’t fear failing in front of millions or billions of people: Ashwin
Recalling those times, Ashwin described how he suffered from stress and how MS Dhoni’s advice aided him to overcome. “I think my self-awareness is very high. And I think a lot. So it was even harder for me. If you get injured, and you’re coming back, it’ll still be in your head,” Ashwin said in an interaction.
“But if you get injured and go through the kind of mental trauma I had to go through, it is even more difficult. And I think I’m extremely well placed for the experience. I’m very well placed to face the adversities of life, for which I’m grateful,” added the 35-year old. Ashwin also mentioned some guidance offered to him by former Indian captain MS Dhoni.
“I have never feared failure in my life. So to go out there on the ground and fail in terms of performance, it’s fine. Like MS Dhoni always said, it is processed vs results. I believe I certainly have cracked the process. I don’t fear failing in front of millions or billions of people. It means nothing. At least I have got the [opportunity] to go out there and succeed or fail, which most people don’t get,” he added.
