By retiring from international cricket in May 2018, AB de Villiers has stunned everyone. However, the talks about the imminent return to the game have begun since Mark Boucher became the coach for South Africa. Boucher recently clarified that if he commits and proves his form, they will take AB De Villiers into consideration. Even the latter has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t want any favorite treatment and wants to rejoin the team.
However, the 36-year-old cricketer revealed that cricket South Africa (CSA) has asked him to do mentorship in the national team. The Proteas are hoping that AB de Villers plays for the T20 World Cup from October 18 until the end of this year. But the tournament is on the verge of being knocked out due to the pandemic going on around the world.
I should be better than the player next to me, says AB de Villiers
“The desire is there from my side to play for South Africa and has been asked by Cricket South Africa to lead the Proteas again,” speaking in the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected. But the Superstar cricketer has shown that he deserves his place in the XI and will not replace any other player.
“For me, it’s most important to be at the top form because I have to be better than the next players. If I feel I deserve my place in the team, it’s easy for me to become part of the XI. For a while, I have not been part of Proteas so I feel that it is very much important for myself as well as for others that I am still good enough to be included in the side.
In addition, AB de Villiers recently made it clear that many changes are going to happen if the COVID-19 World Cup is delayed. He was also worried about the upsetting cricketing calendar. “I don’t know what happens to the schedule with the virus going around,” sign of the former cricketer of South Africa.
