The discussion on Virat Kohli and Babar Azam for the best batsman has continued for quite a long time. The latter has already confessed to being the best for his Indian counter since Kohli made his debut before Babar. Moreover, it is unfair to compare both the players as Pakistan’s newly minted ODI and T20 skipper made his international debut only in 2015.
But England spinner Adil Rashid chose Babar Azam as the best batsman ahead of Virat Kohli. But he explained that his preference is based solely on the current form. He also acknowledged the challenge of choosing the best of the two cricketers, as both are incredibly talented and world-class batsmen.
“It’s a tough one. So I think I got to go with Babar Azam if you go on the current form. I ‘m talking about this nowadays. Babar Azam, I’ve selected because he’s in top form. They are both world-class players anyway, “Rashid quoted.
Virat Kohli struggled on New Zealand tour
Adil Rashid is not wrong as Team India is worried about Virat Kohli’s current form. In New Zealand, he struggled fully and managed to score only a half-century. Though in the T20 Internationals he looked in good touch, the form of the Indian skipper tapered off as the tour progressed. In the first ODI of the three-match series, he scored a half-century (51) but hasn’t crossed 20 since then on tour.
He was found wanting in testing conditions in the Test series where India lost all the matches. Kohli endured one of his worst series, with just 38 runs in four white outings. In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Babar Azam looked in great touch and even squatted at home with Bangladesh during his home-series. He also jumped in the ICC Batting rankings across all the formats and looks set to pile on runs in the near future.
