What went wrong for Punjab Kings in qualifier 1?
Punjab Kings, having had a stellar IPL 2025, hoped to book the final spot in the qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, RCB turned the tide against PBKS and confirmed their place in the IPL 2025 final. Let’s take a look at what went wrong for Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1?
Batting lineup faltered
Punjab Kings and their batting lineup had failed to score strong runs which could be totaled up for a dominating target for RCB. Batters like Priyansh Arya, Josh Inglis, Shreyas Iyer, and Nehal Wadhera were unable to cross the single digit mark. While Prabhsimran Singh and Marcus Stoinis were only capable of scoring 18 and 26 runs respectively. Having given a target of just 102 runs, RCB easily chased it under 10 overs.
RCB’s bowling lineup was strengthened with Josh Hazlewood coming back and taking 3 wickets, alongside Suyash Sharma who also amassed 3 wickets in the match. PBKS will get another shot at the finals, in Qualifier 2 against either Gujarat Titans or Mumbai Indians. If they can get their batting lineup working again, they can contend for the final spot.
Support for Arshdeep Singh
Punjab Kings bowling lineup has been missing strong performances apart from their leading wicket-taker Arshdeep Singh. With Yuzvendra Chahal injured and bowlers like Jamieson, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yash Thakur, Marcus Stoinis, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Harpreet Brar performing just modest numbers.
With Punjab Kings expected to face either Gujarat Titans or Mumbai Indians in the next Qualifier 2 match, which is going to be their last ticket to the IPL 2025 final spot. Both Gujarat and Mumbai have strong batting lineup, and if Punjab Kings bowling cannot prevent their opponent in the Qualifier 2 from piliup up strong runs and if their batting lineup falters again, Punjab Kings and their shot at their maiden IPL title will fade away.
