Can India level the series at the Oval?

At the end of the 4th day, India was able to dismiss about 6 wickets of the English side, and ended the day for England with 35 runs more to chase to win the series. India meanwhile, without their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, has been struggling to defend their 350+ target. Can India level the series at the Oval in the India tour of England 2025?

India’s Decent second innings

India who had been able to put up a score of 396 in their second innings, thanks to the strong partnership of Yashasvi Jaiswal & his surprise partner Akashdeep. While Jaiswal ended up with 118, Akashdeep was able to get 66 to his name alongside Jaiswal. After their dismissals, Jadeja and Sundar, with both of their half-centuries, helped India to score a gentle yet strong 396.

Josh Tongue who had been doubted for his inclusion in the squad, has bagged himself a fifer, which prolonged his name in the series. Other notable performances came from Gus Atkinson, and Jamie Overton who had bagged 3 wickets and 2 wickets each respectively. What lied ahead for England was a decent target which they could chase with their home ground advantage and the ‘Bazball’ tactic which has been their strength going into the chase.

Bazball paid off!

Although England had an underwhelming start to the chase in their second innings, with Ben Duckett being the only opener with a half-century. Joe Root and England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook, having scored individual centuries, helped England close the 4th day at the total of 339/6 in 76.2 overs.

With both of them being dismissed, Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton on the strike, they will be determined to start the 5th and the final day of the final test of the tour in a ‘Bazball’ style of play, and end the innings early to avoid a difficult stance going into the final moments of the match. The Indian side, on the other hand, will be aiming to get the important dismissals to stay close to victory.
