India’s 218-4 against England in T20 World Cup 2007 remains their highest total in the tournament. It is the fourth highest total overall behind Sri Lanka’s (260), England’s (230), and South Africa’s (229).
# Most runs in T20 World Cups:
The star duo of Rohit Sharma (847 runs) and Virat Kohli (845 runs) top the run charts for the Indian team. They are fourth and fifth respectively in terms of overall run-getters in the tournament history. Mahela Jayawardene (1016) tops the run charts.
# Most number of sixes:
It isn’t a surprise that Yuvraj Singh tops this list. He leads the chart with 33 sixes, six of them had come off a single over when Yuvraj took Stuart Broad to the cleaners.
# Highest batting average:
Virat Kohli holds this record for all batsmen who have scored at least 800 runs in the tournament. He averages a humungous 76.81 in 21 games scoring 845 runs.
# Most number of half-centuries:
It is Virat Kohli again who tops the list for batsmen with the most number of half-centuries (10). He is one ahead of Chris Gayle (9) and two ahead of his captain, Rohit Sharma (8).
# Most fifties in a single edition:
There is no other surprise that Virat Kohli tops the list for most fifties in a single edition. He scored 4 fifties in the 2014 edition. Kohli shares this record with Matthew Hayden (2007) and Babar Azam (2021).
# Fastest fifty in T20 World Cup:
It is a 15-year long-standing record. Yuvraj Singh created almost an improbable record in the 2007 T20 World Cup when he smashed a 12-ball 50 against England. KL Rahul is second on this list with a 19-ball 50 that he scored in 2021.
# Most runs in a single edition:
There is little doubt that Virat Kohli remains one of India’s finest T20I batsmen. He smashed 319 runs in the 2014 edition. It is a tournament record. Kohli’s 273 runs in the 2016 edition are the second best among Indian players.
# Most wickets in T20 World Cups:
Ravichandran Ashwin is the leading Indian bowler with 26 wickets in 18 games. Ravindra Jadeja with 21 wickets in 12 games is the next best.
# Most wins and matches as captain:
MS Dhoni is the only captain to lead the side in six consecutive T20 World Cups. It looks like an impossible record to break. Dhoni captained the side in 33 games winning 21 of them, both being tournament records.
