The team were bowled out for just 118 in their opening match of this edition when chasing 161 against Scotland. They won their second match against Zimbabwe. However, Ireland handily defeated their 146 for 5 on Friday to advance. In all three of their games, West Indies shown a noticeable inability to counter spin throughout the middle overs.
In a statement, Skerritt said. “I am deeply upset with the performance results of our team in Australia. I appreciate the sense of utter frustration that is experience by many. Coach Phil Simmons appeared in front of the media following their elimination and emphasized that he was pleased with the team’s pre-event training.
“We’ve worked hard. We’ve prepared well. It’s just on the day, we haven’t done the correct things. We haven’t assessed the situation properly of the day and done what’s necessary for the situation. I don’t think there was disrespect on our part. We prepared like if we were playing anyone else.”
He ended up with emphasizing on the need for fundamental changes that the team needs to bring into the structure.
“We’ve got to go back and look at our structure. How we play the game and make sure that when we come to competitions. And when we play in bilateral series we are ready. We will able to do what’s necessary for each situation of the game.”
