He had a tremendous 2019 World Cup wherein he scored 648 runs. Sharma scored a record 5 centuries in a single edition during that World Cup. He has played two World Cups so far (2015 and 2019) scoring 978 runs at an average of 65.20. His strike rate of 95.97 is impressive too.
#2 AB de Villiers Batting Average in ODI World Cup – 63.52
He played 3 World Cups between 2007-15. AB de Villiers has broken plenty of batting records in the tournament. He has amassed a total of 1,207 runs in 23 games. ABD scored 4 centuries and 6 fifties in 22 World Cup innings. His runs have come at an average of 63.52 and a brilliant strike rate of 117.29.
#3 Michael Clarke Batting Average in ODI World Cup – 63.42
He was another player who had an illustrious run in the World Cups. Michael Clarke led Australia to World Cup glory in 2015. He scored a total of 888 runs in 21 innings across 25 games. Clarke averaged a fine 63.42 across 3 World Cup editions. His strike rate of 94.16 might appear deceptive as he wasn’t someone who was flashy in his approach.
#4 Vivian Richards Batting Average in ODI World Cup – 63.31
He was the original master blaster. Vivian Richards was unstoppable in the first three World Cup editions. One of his three World Cup centuries came in the 1979 World Cup final. Richards amassed 1,013 runs in 23 games at an average of 63.31. His strike rate of 85.05 during that era is quite special!
#5 David Warner Batting Average in ODI World Cup – 62.00
Pretty similar to Rohit Sharma, David Warner had a fantastic 2019 World Cup. Warner has scored 992 runs in 18 World Cup games so far. He has more centuries (4) than half centuries (3) in the tournament. Warner averages 62 while striking at 98.12
#6 Rahul Dravid Batting Average in ODI World Cup – 61.42
He was dropped from the Indian ODI team in his initial years owing to his inability to rotate strike. Rahul Dravid worked his way into the ODI team before the 1999 World Cup in England. He was the highest run scorer in that edition wherein he scored 461 runs. Dravid had a solid 2003 World Cup too while the team suffered a tough fate in 2007. He scored 860 runs in 22 games at an average of 61.42.
