Who Is Captain Of Indian Test Cricket Team?
Manjrekar believes that Test cricket remains important to everyone engaged in Indian cricket and that the leadership would not be handed over to Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul immediately. Manjrekar added that while Pant and Rahul would be ‘captains in waiting,’ Rohit Sharma should be the next skipper of the Indian Test team.
“I think Test cricket is still pretty sacred to everyone in Indian cricket. So, I don’t think they will go to Rishabh Pant straightaway, nor KL Rahul. Rohit Sharma will get it, and these players will all be captains in waiting,” said Sanjay Manjrekar.
That’s a big challenge for Rohit Sharma: Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar also stated that Rohit Sharma’s fitness level will be a struggle. Manjrekar finished by saying that because Kohli unexpectedly decided to step down, Rohit Sharma would assume the captain’s role for the Indian team in the upcoming Test.
“KL Rahul’s form has to remain intact. But yes, that’s a big challenge for Rohit Sharma, his fitness, because when you look at the batting and overall his leadership skills, he is pretty fit for the job from that standpoint. Physical fitness is going to be a challenge but because this has come sudden, in the next series, you will see Rohit Sharma as India’s Test captain,” concluded Sanjay Manjrekar.
The next Test match between India and Sri Lanka will be played on February 25, 2022, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This would also be Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match. Rohit Sharma is already the skipper of the Indian cricket team for limited-overs cricket.
