The International Cricket Council (ICC) has explained why a best-of-three format was not considered for determining the World Test Championship (WTC) final winner. Several experts, including Ravi Shastri, the Indian cricket team’s head coach, have previously argued that a best of three final is required to ensure the tournament’s long-term existence. let’s discuss why IND vs NZ Test Final is not decided by the best of three format
Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh then came out in support of Shastri. However, as far as the packed calendar for international and domestic cricket goes, Geoff Allardice, the ICC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), claimed that “blocking out a month” isn’t practical.
“The reality of the international cricket schedule is that we’re not going to have that month or so, blocking out a month or so for all the teams in the tournament for a final. That’s why (a) one-match final was decided upon,” Allardice was quoted as saying in a virtual news conference.
The regulations were changed a lot, due to the COVID-19 pandemic – IND vs NZ Test Final
To begin with, the WTC’s scoring system was examined. After a number of series were canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regulations were changed. Allardice, on the other hand, seemed pleased with the whole qualification procedure.
“We were really pleased with the way it played out. It was obvious that the interest in certain series wasn’t just restricted to the two teams involved. It was coming from all over the cricketing world and I think to bring that sort of context to test cricket is a real step forward,” he added.
The WTC final between India and New Zealand will take place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Friday, June 18. The Black Caps, headed by Kane Williamson, will be coming off a 1-0 series win against England, while Virat Kohli’s team is playing an intra-squad game.
The England and Kiwis Series was not included in the WTC. The ICC previously cleared that the winner going to get a $1.6 million cheque and a mace. If the match into tie then the prize money is to be shared equally with both Teams.
