Indian Team Skipper, Virat Kohli, is the only Indian cricketer who has been included in the count of five cricketers of the decade that was declared by Wisden. Along with Virat Kohli, the other four players are Steve Smith, Dale Steyn, AB de Villiers, and Ellyse Perry.
Wisden’s Opinion Upon Virat Kohli:
“This genius cricketer has stepped up to rise, time and again, to the challenge. Between the end of the England tour in 2014 and the second Test against Bangladesh at Kolkata in November, Kohli averaged 63, with 21 hundreds and 13 fifties,” Wisden said about Virat Kohli.
“It has left him with the good set of statistics that the only cricketer to average at least 50 in all three international formats. Presently we can see, Steve Smith was moved to remark that there is no such player quite like him. After the retirement of the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar and the gradual waning of the former Indian Team captain MS Dhoni, no cricketer in the world has led their teams under such daily pressure as Kohli,” it added.
If we look at every aspect, this decade has been dominated by the Team India Skipper, Kohli, who has scored more runs than any other batsman in ODIs. ICC posted some surprising facts about Kohli which mirror his dominance in world cricket over this decade.
“Virat Kohli this decade: 5,775 more international runs than any other batsmen, 22 more international hundreds than anyone else,” posted by ICC on its official Twitter account. This year, the right-hand batsman has achieved 2,370 across formats at an average of 64.05. It was the fourth consecutive time that the 31-year-old has scored 2000+ runs during this year.
Virat Kohli is already present in Wisden’s Test team of the decade as well as the ODI team of the decade. He looks that the company of Former Indian Skipper, MS Dhoni, Vice-Captain, Rohit Sharma as the other Indian cricketers in the ODI team of the decade.
